20 Years after his untimely death the 31 st of March 2026 saw the holding of the annual Toby
Memorial 2 Ball Better Ball competition held at Lake View’s A & B courses in honour and
memory of our sadly departed member Toby Charnaud.
Toby was an active and much loved member of HHGS from its inception and the decision to
hold an annual tournament in his honour has been reinforced by the popularity of this event
ever since
The course was in great condition – at present almost entirely unaffected by the hot dry
spell we are “suffering” in Hua Hin – and 12 teams took part. The really close scoring was
evidenced by the fact that 1 stableford point was the difference between 7 of the teams and
by the fact that the winners and runners up could only be separated by countback. Both
Mark Baldwin and Soloman Elmi and Andy McDermott and Bryan Marsh finished with 46
points with Andy and Brian coming out on top from the countback.
The game was followed by a subsidized 3 course dinner at our sponsor’s COCO 51
restaurant during which the prize giving was held and 27 of us thoroughly enjoyed a great
social evening.
A great time was had by all and Toby’s memory continues to be cemented in the HHGS
traditions.
