Non Conforming Clubs

From the R&A’s web site..

Appendix II, 4c of the 2008 edition of the Rules of Golf states that:
"The design, material and/or construction of, or any treatment to, the clubhead (which includes the face) must not … have the effect of a spring which exceeds the limit set forth in the Pendulum Test Protocol on file with the R&A"

This is a new Rule which applies to all golfers of all ability and in all forms of play.

Since the announcement of this new Rule in August 2002, golfers have been encouraged to check the conformance status of their driver, and any driver they may buy in the future, in preparation for its introduction. Many drivers which were previously conforming have now become non-conforming as a result of the new Rule.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is not a societies responsibility to ensure that a member plays with a conforming club.

It is each persons responsibility to ensure that their clubs conform to the R&A’s specifications.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We believe that it would be considered unfair to your fellow society members to knowingly play with a non conforming club.

To find out if your club is a conforming club or a non conforming club visit the R&A web site: www.randa.org or ask a committee member to find out for you.

If a member should be using a non conforming club in any of the societies competitions, they are in breach of the new ruling, Apendix II, 4c of the 2008 edition of the rules of golf (as quoted above) therefore, they will receive a written warning and will not be able to enter into any of the societies competitions until they conform to the R&A ruling on the subject. Should any member winning a match or a society competition using a non conforming club will forfeit the result and be asked to return any monies received. They may however continue to play with the society but outside of the competitions.

We should remind everyone that the Hua Hin Golf Society abides by the rules of: The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.

Hua Hin Golf Society - Local Adopted Society Rules

Last Updated 9th June 2007

These rules are in addition to the local rules of the various golf courses that we play on, which are printed on their scorecards or displayed on their notice board.

Plugged Balls. You may lift and clean your ball if it is plugged in it’s own pitch mark, through the green which does not include bunkers and hazards.

Bunkers.    You may remove stones only, but not twigs or leaves etc. You can receive a free drop in the bunker if your ball is in a wash away, due to heavy rain or flooding.

Ants.           There will be no free drop if your ball lands on or is near to ants

this is not covered by the rules of golf. (Many people think that it is)

Reminders. Your caddie is allowed to mark your ball on the putting green;

it is your responsibility to ensure that it is marked correctly (i.e. directly

behind the ball not 3 balls in front or to the side).

Score Cards. Score Cards are to be marked by one of your playing

opponents not a caddie, any alterations should be initialized by the marker

of the card. Can you also give your score card to the collector after you have

completed your round of golf, before you shower please.

Recent Additions

Digital Range Finders. The committee have decided that Range Finders (Digital equipment to determine yardages) will not be allowed to be used during society competitions.

Groove around greens. There is, on some golf courses, notably at Springfield, a groove around the green which separates the two different grasses (do not confuse this with being the edge of the green) if a ball ‘settles’ in this groove, you will be allowed to ‘pick and place’ within 6 inches (150mm) no nearer to the hole without penalty.

There is a rules sheet available which covers most of the familiar rules

which are sometimes broken, (unintentionally of course) if you should

require one of these sheets then please ask your captain Berny Morgan

for a copy.

There is also a copy of the Newsletter available at Berny’s with answers to comments at the last AGM.
